LINCOLNTON – On Monday afternoon around 4:15 p.m., the Lincolnton Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of North Laurel Street and East Sycamore Street to call described as a roll over vehicular accident.

A Scion XB, which failed to stop for a stop sign, was struck on the driver’s side by a Honda Accord and rolled completely over, landing on its tires.

The driver of the Honda continued on Sycamore Street and drove over a curb where she struck a parked Mustang and pushed it into a Toyota 4runner.

She was transported to LMC with non-life threatening injuries.

David Farnsworth, a witness who was working in his yard, said: “I heard the collision and looked over from my front yard to see the Scion landing on its wheels.”

The driver of the Scion did not complain of injuries.

Great American Beer Festival

Posted: 30 Sep 2011 03:12 AM PDT

Profile AmericaProfile America — Thursday, September 29th. Beer lovers in the West are congregating in Denver for the 30th annual Great American Beer Festival, which runs through Saturday. They had better have tickets before making a long trip, since tickets have been sold out for months. Some 49,000 people are expected to attend. They’ll be able to sample beers from more than 450 U.S. breweries — a total of nearly 2,200 different brews on tap, a number which puts the festival into the Guinness Book of Records. Americans drink an average of 22 gallons of beer each during the course of a year. This compares with 2½ gallons of wine and nearly 1½ gallons of distilled liquor. Profile America is produced by the U.S. Census Bureau: Measuring America–People, Places, and Our Economy.

Fortenberry re-enters race for U.S. Congress

Ken Fortenberry Reenters Congressional Race, Releases Statement

DENVER, NC – On Thursday, Ken Fortenberry, the publisher and owner of the News@Norman newspaper in Denver, NC, released a statement to media outlets announcing his reentry into the 10th Congressional District Race.

Fortenberry’s statment is below:

Two weeks ago I decided that the challenges I faced as an outsider running against a well-funded career politician made it impractical for me to mount a credible campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Since that time I have received strong encouragement from people throughout the district who told me they were disappointed that I was not going to be on the ballot because they shared my belief that we need ordinary people representing us in Washington, not career politicians.

They have told me that they want someone to speak up for the working men and women of this district, a family man who shares their values and concerns.

The people I have spoken with in the past two weeks have made me realize that not being a politician is my strength, not my weakness. We have too many politicians now.

They also have made me understand that not having a campaign account full of huge donations from special interest groups is not a weakness. We have too many elected officials who don't have the courage to do the right thing because they have been bought and sold instead of working together to put our country back on track.

The 10th Congressional District has some of the best-trained and most-motivated workers in the world, and I want to work creatively with the private sector to fill up all of the empty buildings and put people back to work. The manufacturing segment of our economy has been the backbone and the strength of our nation for generations, and until the failed leadership in Washington sent our jobs overseas, we had full employment in our district. We can do better.

With the right leadership in Washington and a focus on less government, more accountability, and responsible, reasonable representation, North Carolina can lead the nation and help make America No. 1 again in the world.

To assure the citizens that I consider serving as their congressman an honor and a public service, I have signed a pledge to support a Constitutional Amendment to limit the terms of members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. I also am committed to a Constitutional Amendment to require a balanced federal budget.

The issues we face are far too important to be left in the hands of the career politicians who have failed us in the past. There is no reason to expect that keeping them in office will make things any better for ordinary Americans.

After consultation with friends, family, supporters and people throughout the district, I have decided to renew my campaign to fight for the working men and women of North Carolina.

While our campaign faces a David vs. Goliath challenge, we will be very conservative in spending every dollar we raise. We will also use some non-traditional methods to reach the voters and share our message that we are fed up with business as usual in Washington.

Working together – instead of apart – I believe we can restore America's strength and greatness, and give our young people hope that they can achieve the American dream.
