A Spark for your Brain: Mindfire Posted: 07 Nov 2011 08:30 AM PST Perhaps you didn’t notice, but over the past several years Scott Berkun has been writing interesting essays on a variety of subjects. More recently, it’s possible you didn’t know that he’s compiled thirty of his best pieces into a book titled Mindfire: Big Ideas for Curious Minds I read through the book in two evenings last week; that’s both good and bad. It’s nice that the essays were accessible and could be read in a rapid fashion. The downside is that in spending two nights to read through the book, I realized that I’ll need to come back and re-read a few of the pieces since they made me think, and they made me think in a way that’s going to require further thought. I could probably choose any single essay and write an essay of my own in response. This is a good thing. The book begins with “The Cult of Busy”, an essay about time that should be required reading for all adults. Essays average 3-5 pages in length and tackle topics such as transparency, leadership, faith, bullshit, and mistakes. Scott’s writing style is upbeat and engaging with a good dose of humor mixed throughout. If you’ve ever seen Scott speak (either in person or online), his positive, interesting style is reflected in his writing. Mindfire is a great read and recommended for anyone who would like to spend some time thinking about life, society, and personal interaction. The book is available at Amazon |
