Panetta Discusses Cooperation With French Defense Minister

Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta met with newly appointed French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian to discuss Afghan transition prior to the upcoming NATO Summit, a senior Pentagon spokesman said.

Flicka is a Boxer, she has been at the shelter since 1/27/12. Flicka came to us as a neglect case. She weighed a mere 32 lbs in January, now she weighs 60 lbs. Flicka is 4 years old.

Pete Acker named second vice chair Charlotte Regional Partnership board

The Charlotte Regional Partnership has announced Pete Acker, president of Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln, as its second vice chair for fiscal year 2012-2013 that begins July 1. Acker currently serves as treasurer for the public-private economic development organization. As second vice chair, he will be on track to become chairman of the board in fiscal year 2014-2015.

The Partnership's other officers for FY 2012-2013 will be: Alan G. Dexter, a partner in the Charlotte office of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, chair; Russ Guerin, executive vice president – business development & planning at Carolinas HealthCare System, first vice chair; and Paul Snyder, president of customer service for Goodrich, treasurer. As immediate past-chair, Brett Carter, president of Duke Energy North Carolina, will remain a board officer.

Ronnie Bryant, Charlotte Regional Partnership president & CEO, said he looks forward to continuing to work with his leadership. "Their personal backgrounds, coupled with years of Charlotte Regional Partnership board and committee service, have given them a deep understanding of the competitive environment in which we operate," Bryant said. "Each of our officers has demonstrated his commitment to our region, and together they will provide the Partnership with strong, capable direction, as we market the 16-county region as the business location of choice."

A nonprofit, public/private economic development organization, the Charlotte Regional Partnership leverages regional resources to market the 16-county Charlotte region. The Partnership's business development activities position Charlotte USA for sustained, long-term growth, job creation and investment opportunities.
The 16-county region encompasses Alexander, Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties in North Carolina and Chester, Chesterfield, Lancaster and York counties in South Carolina.
