Android is Beating Apple in Mobile War, Says Google's Eric Schmidt

Google chairman Eric Schmidt has declared Android the winner in its mobile war with Apple. In an interview with Bloomberg, Schmidt said Google's mobile platform is widening its lead over Apple in the mobile-software market. He compared its success to the way Microsoft dominated the iPhone maker in the desktop business two decades ago. "This is a huge platform change; this is of the scale of 20 years ago -- Microsoft versus Apple," he said.

Redbox Challenges Netflix With $6 a Month Streaming Service

Netflix has a new challenger in the streaming video category in Redbox Instant by Verizon, a service that starts at just $6-a-month. The offering is expected to go live later this month in invitation-only beta. Crowdtilt Opens API So Anyone Can Create a Crowdfunded Project

Crowdtilt, a self-styled "Kickstarter for groups of friends," has released its API to let anyone create their own crowdfunding site. In an example cited by the company, a vacation home rental site could for example let five friends pay their share for a vacation home rental and then only charge the credit cards if all five have paid. The API is also accessible for crowdfunding models under the JOBS Act.
