| Ever wondered how Google’s search works? The company launched a new website Friday, appropriately called How Search Works, to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the process from start to finish. “Here you can follow the entire life of a search query, from the web, to crawling and indexing, to algorithmic ranking and serving, to fighting webspam,” Google Product Manager Jake Hubert said in a blog post announcing the page.

| We've already seen all kinds of 3D-printed items, from jewelry, to guitars, and even football cleats. Now, we might soon have an almost entirely 3D-printed car in the Urbee 2. The hybrid car, created by engineer Jim Kor, is designed to be light, cheap, easy to reproduce and very efficient. It's made entirely of 3D-printed plastic parts, all except the engine and base chassis, which are metal.

| The U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) published a patent application from Apple on Thursday that shows off a magnetic system for attaching a tablet to various supporting structures. The patent [USPTO link], which was first uncovered by Patently Apple, shows off a number of ways magnets could be used to make the iPad more extensible in various situations.

A consortium of great brains and famous names launched what it's calling the "Interspecies Internet" at the TED conference in Long Beach Thursday night. | Despite making up more than half of U.S. degree earners and roughly half of the U.S. workforce, women comprise less than one-quarter of STEM (science technology engineering and mathematics) professionals. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, women's share of STEM jobs has not increased over the past decade, despite the demographic's rise in college degrees.
