One organization aims to address the real-world issue with Soccket, a soccer ball that harnesses energy. Soccket stores the kinetic energy built up while you play using a pendulum-like mechanism. Thirty minutes of kicking around can power an LED lamp for three hours.

| Tech rivals Google and Apple both have exciting projects making headlines. Project Glass, Google's effort to create augmented reality glasses, should be available by the end of this year, while the iWatch, still considered an "alleged" Apple experiment, is expected to be profitable. | Top o' the morning to everyone, and for those doing any Googling this St. Patrick's Day, there's an adorable Google Doodle waiting for you. This year, an animated Google Doodle features six cute children — each wearing a letter of Google's name — doing a traditional Irish stepdance. Although Google has had St. Patrick's Day Doodles since 2000, this is the first one to get the animation treatment.
