Bitcoin Was the 'Victim of Its Own Success,' Not DDOS Attack | | Bitcoin, the world's most popular virtual currency, yesterday took a huge nosedive — from its all-time-high of $265 to as low as $105 — but the reason is not a DDOS as some have speculated. Instead, the leading Bitcoing exchange, Mt.Gox, claims that Bitcoin was "a victim of its own success," with the lag from too much interest in the currency causing many investors to sell, which lead to a market panic.

| Worldwide PC shipments plunged 13.9% in the first quarter according to IDC, which noted that Microsoft's introduction of Windows 8 hurt overall sales by confusing consumers. "At this point, unfortunately, it seems clear that the Windows 8 launch not only failed to provide a positive boost to the PC market, but appears to have slowed the market," Bob O’Donnell, IDC Program VP Clients and Displays, said in a statement.

| Ribbon, a San Francisco payments company, made headlines early Wednesday with the launch of a new in-stream payment option for Twitter that lets users buy and sell items directly through the news feed on the social network. Now, just a couple hours later, Twitter has killed off the feature. Hany Rashwan, the co-founder and CEO of Ribbon, told Mashable that the feature was pulled without warning in less than two hours.

Ribbon, a San Francisco payments company, announced a new feature Wednesday that lets merchants offer an in-stream payment option on Twitter.

| Samsung has launched its first ads for the Galaxy S 4, its would-be iPhone 5-killer. Don't expect any Apple bashing, though. These are straight-up lifestyle and feature-focused spots. The ads, which broke in the Netherlands, show youngish people using their S4s to do now-mundane things like take and send photos. However, one spot shows off the model's Group Play feature that lets you share media (including music) with people around you.

| General Motors, whose decision to pull advertising from Facebook days before that company's IPO last year, has returned to Facebook with a test program for its Chevrolet Sonic. "Chevrolet is testing a number of mobile advertising solutions, including Facebook," Chris Perry, VP for U.S. marketing of the Chevrolet, wrote in an email to The New York Times.
