| Benedict Evans, a consultant at UK-based research firm Enders Analysis, has a great post describing the market for smartphones (and phones more broadly) in three charts and about 600 words. Admirable economy! Let me try to compress the argument even further. If one looks at profits, only two companies make a substantial amount of money: Apple and Samsung.

| Ghost, an open-source blogging platform that hopes to shake up the personal publishing space, is nearing the end of its Kickstarter journey. Almost a month ago, Ghost launched with what seemed like an audacious goal: Raise £25,000 to help create a new web platform dedicated to publishing. To date, the project has raised £150,000 (that's $226,000 in U.S. dollars), and it has a shot at making its £250,000 stretch goal.

| More than 18 months after announcing that it was shutting down Google Buzz, Google is taking the final steps in snuffing out the platform. According to an email sent to Buzz users, as of July 17, 2013, Google will remove the posts from its public servers and archive them to users Google Drive acounts. Google Buzz — for those of you who don't remember — was Google's first attempt at a broader social strategy.

| Despite rolling out a major overhaul a little over a year ago, Google could be preparing to redesign the Gmail experience on iOS, Android and the desktop. Reports of a new look for the Android client came from the eagle-eyes at Android Police — who noticed the new addition of a navigation drawer UI element in a Google I/O session on Android design patterns.
