| Everybody's favorite photo-sharing (and photo-disappearing) app just got a slick makeover in the App Store. Snapchat rolled out version 5.0, dubbed "Banquo," on Wednesday for iPhones. It boasts a slew of speed and design enhancements, including swipe navigation, double-tap to reply, an improved friend finder and in-app profiles.

| Smartphone owners are now a solid majority of U.S. mobile subscribers at 61% according to Nielsen. Smartphones became the dominant mobile device in the U.S. in March 2012. The figures, for the three-month period ending in March, also show Android was the predominant smartphone OS with 53% versus 40% for Apple's iOS. Apple's share was up 7%, mostly likely because of the late 2012 iPhone 5 release.

| The TidyTilt has to be one of the most clever iPhone cases we've ever seen. Similar to the iPad Smart Cover, the magnetic TidyTilt folds over to act as a stand for your iPhone. And since it's magnetic, you can even use it to slap your iPhone on the fridge. Lots of other people liked the TidyTilt, too, apparently, since the Kickstarter project received more than $200,000 in donations when it only asked for $10,000.

| Unlocking your Android phone might soon become a matter of frowning, yawning or smiling. A patent from Google, originally filed in June 2012, enhances facial recognition by capturing several images of the user's facial gestures, which should prevent some ways of cheating the "standard" facial recognition system. The problem with facial recognition is it's possible to fool it by simply presenting a photo of a person to the device's camera.

| One of the burning issues with Samsung's flagship Android smartphone, the Galaxy S4, was limited space for apps in the 16GB version of the device — 9.15GB. A software update for the Galaxy S4 rectifies this, increasing the available storage to 9.23GB, and giving users the ability to move the apps to the SD memory card.
