| E-reading is on the rise in Russia, but piracy remains a big problem for the burgeoning market. According to figures published by Russia: Beyond the Headlines, 70% of Russians read e-books, nearly a quarter more than the number who did a year ago. Yet 92% of those readers download their books from the Internet for free, compared to around 12% [PDF] in the U.S.

| Yelp on Tuesday announced the ability to get food delivery and pickup on the platform, the first steps in a new functionality that lets users interact directly with businesses. The company is launching the new program, called Platform, with a few restaurants affiliated with Delivery.com and Eat24 including Republic in New York and Layaly Mediterranean Grill in San Francisco.

| Los Angeles became the first city to make domain name extensions available to the public this week. On Monday, Go Daddy opened .la domain extensions to public registration, priced at $39.99/year. Not all domain names are available at that rate — Go Daddy is auctioning about 300 domains it expects to be in particular demand, including cheaptickets.la and studios.la, beginning at $100 per domain.

| Coca-Cola is trumpeting its relationship with Spotify in the UK with branding on its cans that directs consumers to an app for music discovery. The can plugs the link cocacola.com/placelists, which leads to a Spotify app featuring a red map showing music people are listening to around the world. | Amazon continues to build out its in-house publishing division with the Tuesday launch of its tenth imprint, Jet City Comics, for comics and graphic novels. The retail giant has signed on several well-known authors, including Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin (above) and Snow Crash author Neal Stephenson, to translate their work into graphic novel form with the help of comics writers, artists and translators.

| In a move that will thrill advertisers but make at least some members of the public queasy, a European outdoor advertising firm is rolling out ads using face detection this week. The technology, called OptimEyes, will let advertisers know how many people are seeing their ads — and what kinds of people are viewing them. OptimEyes promises to identify the gender and rough age of viewers using face detection.

| Tesla is officially entering the big leagues. On July 15, the car company will join the Nasdaq 100, an index that tracks the largest companies on the exchange. Nasdaq announced that Tesla will replace Oracle, which is moving to the New York Stock Exchange.
