Blogging is fun and rewarding. It's also a lot of work. Whether blogging for business, or just for fun; starting a blog for the first time, or you're a veteran star of the blogosphere, it's important to have a strategy in place with an end goal, and tactics to help you get to that goal. Here are five C's to keep in mind as you execute your blog strategy. #1 Consistency - Determine how often you can blog, whether it's daily weekly or once a month, and stick to that schedule. If this is your first blog, feel free to start small, posting once a month or once a week, building from there. Being consistent helps create fresh content, which will help your Google ranking, and give your readers a reason to come back for more.
- Quality blogging takes time, but you will be rewarded for your efforts. Eventually, consistent followers will develop, and to help build into that, let's talk about the second C …
#2 Community - To successfully build a community for your blog, focus on two key groups: your readers, and other bloggers. For example, your blog should create an environment where readers feel comfortable commenting and sharing feedback, as well as sharing your content within their circles. Basically, you want to encourage interaction with each post.
- A great way to spark engagement is to include a call to action, like a question at the bottom of each post.
- You'll also want to start following other bloggers, and interact with them to build relationships. There's no need to be timid here. Most bloggers are friendly and open to adding other bloggers to their networks. Simply begin to follow blogs that interest you, comment, and share them within your social networks to begin building a relationship.
#3 Content - If you want to truly be successful in writing content for your blog, ask yourself this question: What would I want to read? That's it. It's tempting to look at other blogs, and wonder if you should write in a certain style, or about topics that aren't as natural to you, simply because this seems "popular" … don't do it. Stay true to yourself at every level.
- My best advice on creating content is write about experiences you are having, address FAQs from customers, or share trending topics that are interesting to you. Not everyone will read your blog, and that's OK because your blog isn't for everyone. It's for your target audience.
- Simply put: Write about what you love and you will love what you write.
#4 Commitment - In blogging, sometimes you just need to roll up your sleeves and get it done. I can attest – there are times when I do not feel like blogging. I've come to realize those feelings are OK, but it's important to ask yourself why don’t feel like blogging? Did you commit to blog more often than you should have just starting out? Should you just push through and blog?
- The answer: Push through the fog and just write. As with anything important in life, sometimes you just don't feel like doing it, so you have to rely on discipline. Work those blogging muscles because the future success of your blog depends on it.
#5 Creativity - This final key, could be the most fun part of blogging. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the amount of creativity you can show in your blog. You can be as artistic, introspective or analytical as you want to be. It's YOUR blog. You get to decide what the look, feel and overall vibe is. You'll enjoy blogging so much more if you allow your personality, and voice, to shine through in each post.
