My new goal is to stop complaining about the weather.
We’re finally seeing the back end of March, and while spring came in like a lion, and pretty much went out like a lion (hey, spring, that’s not how it works!), we have April to look forward to, and are one month closer to summer.
So there. Done. No more weather talk.
On that positive note, today’s FeedBlitz: Rewind the Week manages to bring you everything you need to have a fantastic weekend: Money, media, and music.
Let’s start with the money.
Klout Bought for Two Hundred Million Dollars
That’s right, the rumours were true – ‘the little social influence scoring platform that could’, just did. Two hundred million dollars is nothing to sneer at, in my books. Lithium Technologies just snapped up the much maligned social scoring company, and, unlike some recent purchases lately – Yahoo comes to mind – Lithium says it will continue to operate Klout, and won’t be killing it off or morphing it into something else. If you like Klout – that’s good news. If you don’t? It doesn’t look like it’s going away any time soon!
Moving on now, to media and music.
What Photo Tagging Tells Us About Twitter’s Future
This article by Fastcompany.com puts an different spin on Twitter’s new photo tagging option. It works much the same as Facebook – you can upload up to four photos now on your tweets, and tag up to ten people in each picture. Twitter continues to get more and more visual, which, for marketers, is a good thing. But will this latest feature be the beginning of the end for the 140 character count – arguably Twitter’s most deciding feature? It will be interesting to watch this evolution.
Music for a Rainy Day: Songza Will Now Recommend Music Based on the Weather
Ok, I said no more weather talk. But this is cool. Music provider Songza has teamed up with The Weather Channel, and will use their data to determine what tunes it should stream for you, based on what weather you’re experiencing on a given day. Music to sit through blizzards by? Yes please!
And speaking of music, and Twitter…
New Billboard Charts Will Track the Most Popular Music on Twitter
According to this article, “Twitter has now partnered with Billboard to work on real-time charts that the companies hope will be the new industry standard for tracking and surfacing the conversation around music as it happens.” Billboard Magazine is the grandaddy of music charting, and the bible for bands to track the popularity of their music. Their goal? The Billboard 100. But is the new goal to be the ‘top band on Twitter’? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
And that’s it for this week. Have a safe and happy weekend.
