Risk of second major osteoporotic fracture is greatest immediately after first fracture Posted: 17 Apr 2016 07:11 AM PDT This study shows that show that the risk of further fracture after a first major osteoporotic fracture is greatest immediately following the first event, with a declining, but still increased, risk in subsequent years. These results suggest that pharmacological treatment for secondary fracture prevention should be considered during the period immediately following a first fracture. |

New study shows children benefited most from gene therapy for LCA, a rare eye disease Posted: 15 Apr 2016 09:56 AM PDT Scientists have completed a two-year Phase I clinical trial which showed that children showed the greatest benefit from gene therapy for treatment of Leber congenital amaurosis or severe early childhood onset retinal degeneration. Importantly, 9 of the 12 participants experienced improvement in visual function. |
