Did you know that 85 percent of a child's brain development occurs in the first five years of life?

At the Partnership for Children of Lincoln & Gaston Counties our goal is to ensure that every child arrives at school healthy, prepared for success and on a level playing field.

Who Are We?

The Partnership for Children is funded through Smart Start, North Carolina's award winning early childhood initiative designed to ensure that children enter school healthy. Smart Start funding allows us to offer programs which benefit children ages 0-5.

We offer a variety of programs that include improving child care quality/teacher education, health promotion, family support and community support.  Under our child care quality/teacher education programs, we have the Individual Professional Development Program, which provides financial incentives to early childhood professionals for completing college courses. Under our health promotion programs we have Child Care Health Consultants who work to improve the health, safety and nutrition of children at licensed child care centers and family care homes. Under our family support programs, we have the VIP (Very Important Parents) Parenting Project that supports positive parent/child interactions.

What is Smart Start?

Smart Start provides early care and education funding to all of North Carolina's 100 counties. Smart Start funds help to improve the quality of child care, make child care more affordable and accessible and provide access to health services and offer family support.

Smart Start funds are administered at the local level through nonprofit organizations called local Partnerships.

In 1993, the North Carolina Partnership for Children was created, the statewide nonprofit organization that provides oversight for the local partnerships.

Each county in North Carolina has a Partnership for Children staffed with a board of directors who make decisions to meet the needs of children and families.
