Samsung Dethrones Nokia as Top Cellphone Brand in 2012, Beats Apple | | Samsung has ended Nokia's 14-year reign, dethroning the Finnish company to become the top cellphone brand in 2012, according to a new report. The Korean electronics giant is expected to capture 29% of worldwide cellphone shipments; that's up from 24% last year, the IHS iSuppli Mobile and Wireless Communications Service said in a release. In comparison, Nokia's market share will fall to 24% from 30% last year, the research firm added.

| Aviary, the mobile photo-editing firm that inked a deal to provide filters for Twitter last week, announced that there have been 2 million downloads of its app since last weekend. Avi Muchnick, chief product officer of Aviary, tweeted the stat on Tuesday: Since updating @aviary's iOS showcase app this weekend we have seen over 2 million installations.

| Samsung has announced a new 5-inch smartphone called the Galaxy Grand. Despite the name, it's a mid-range device, with a slightly disappointing 800 x 480 screen resolution, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera. Other features of note include 8GB of internal memory (further expandable to 64GB via a microSD memory card) and a 2,100mAh battery (same as the Samsung Galaxy S III).

And Mashable happened to be there on a particularly bustling day -- the launch of YouTube Capture, an iPhone-only app launched with little fanfare that will likely overtake the device's default video camera. You may not have installed Capture yet -- indeed, it took most of Monday for it to even show up in the App Store's search results.
