| LAS VEGAS — T-Mobile originally launched its value plans in September 2011 and Tuesday it announced plans to move all of its devices to the Value plan model. Most phones you purchase at a carrier are subsidized by that carrier. What that means is you might get a $600 phone for $200, with the carrier picking up the tab for the leftover $400 of the device's purchase price.

| Movie studio Paramount has teamed up with Qualcomm to create a new app for the upcoming film Star Trek Into Darkness. Announced at CES 2013, the app uses context-aware technologies to bring specific information to users at specific times. When the app launches at the end of January, fans will be able to get special Star Trek Into Darkness content, such as videos, photos and wallpaper delivered directly to the mobile device.

The Journal's report comes just hours after a similar post from the usually unreliable Digitimes, which posited that a lower-cost iPhone targeted at China and other emerging markets is on its way.

| In 2012, tablets outsold notebook computers in the U.S. and China, but 2013 will be the year this trend goes global, according to NPD DisplaySearch. That's three years ahead of analysts' earlier estimates, and reflects a projected 64% growth in tablet purchases in 2013 versus 2012. This growth is driven primarily by a surge in purchases of smaller 7-inch and 8-inch tablets, which will represent 45% of the 240 million tablets sold in 2013.

| You know Apple is huge when even part of its business is bigger than many of its competitors. If the iPad were a standalone company, it would be the 11th largest tech company in the U.S., according to an estimate from Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi, via Fortune.
