| While the first Ubuntu-based smartphones won't be available to the general public until October, developers will gain access to preview builds of the OS next week. Canonical — the company behind the Ubuntu project — announced that the Touch Developer Preview of Ubuntu will be available for the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4 on Feb. 21, 2013.

| To expand its fare payment technology, New Jersey Transit will now give you paper dollar bills in some of those vending machines that sell paper tickets. Yes, they're finally moving away from using $1 coins (which no one wants as a form of change anyway). But here's a thought: Why not bypass the change and the paper tickets altogether and move to e-tickets? I take NJ Transit trains to commute into New York City every day.

| More details on HTC's next smartphone — the rumored HTC One — are leaking out, including pricing and availability. According to HTC Source, the new phone will be released as the HTC M7 in Europe on March 8, 2013. The site also claims that the phone will make its U.S. debut on March 22 under the HTC One moniker. U.S. pricing for the HTC One is rumored to be $199 with a 2-year contract for a 32GB device and $299 for a 64 GB device.

| One of the most-hyped features in the new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone is its "time-shifting" camera. When you take a photo of someone's face, the phone lets you pick the "best face" moment (within a few seconds of pressing the shutter), leaving the rest of the photo untouched. The benefit of the time-shift is to eliminate group photos that are spoiled because one person blinked or had a goofy expression.
