Yet with Samsung's would-be iPhone 5-killer, the Galaxy S4, that's not an issue. Hands-free control is one of the features highlighted in this 90-second ad, which broke Thursday night during Conan. Another is the ability to interact with TVs and S-Beam, Samsung's name for its NFC capability.

| Marketing itself often falls prey to the same challenges that bedevil the stuff that marketers market. Repackaging hoary concepts like advertorials takes some creative thinking. Luckily, marketers are up to the task of remarketing their marketing. Contextual marketing is a good example. The term appears to not have existed prior to 1975 or so but seems to have really caught on recently.

| Vending machine makers of late have sought to add social media capabilities, but they haven't messed with the design much. So give Diet Coke points for trying. The brand has unveiled what it's calling the "world's thinnest vending machine." The device appears to be less than a foot thick and is able to fit in odd places like beauty salons, gyms and bowling alleys.
