Host Sites Wanted for National Summer Transportation Institute Program

Posted: 16 Jan 2015 05:50 AM PST

RALEIGH - The NC Department of Transportation formally invites all North Carolina accredited Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Tribal colleges, Minority Serving Institutions (MSI), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), Asian-American Native American Pacific Island Serving Institutions (ANAPISI), and other accredited colleges, community colleges and universities to apply to serve as a host site for the National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) Program for the 2015 fiscal year. In an effort to address the need for a diverse workforce in the 21st Century and to create an awareness of the career choices and opportunities that exist in the transportation industry, the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) established various educational initiatives including the NSTI Program.  While the NSTI Program is federally funded, it is administered by State Departments of Transportation.  The NSTI program is focused on science, technology, engineering and math for high school and junior high school students. NSTI program objectives are to improve STEM skills, provide awareness to middle and high school students – particularly minority, female and disadvantaged youth – about transportation careers, and encourage participants to consider transportation-related fields of study in their higher education pursuits. Academic institutions interested in serving as host sites must complete and submit their application package directly to the NC Dept. of Transportation. The Statement of Work Application and the Proposal Application forms are available for download: Statement of Work Application Proposal Application Applications are due to NCDOT no later than 5 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2015.
