| Twitter on Wednesday opened the floodgates to a torrent of new advertising. While that's going to be great for revenues, there's a risk of an oversaturation of ads in the stream. Balancing user experience with monetization needs is a delicate task for any media company, but Twitter is uniquely vulnerable. As Clark Fredricksen, VP at eMarketer, points out, Twitter does not have a right column for direct-response ads the way Facebook does.

| Twitter on Wednesday unveiled its long-awaited advertising API, a move that will likely grow the company's revenues by a wide margin. The move, which had been reported by Mashable on Tuesday, will let let larger ad agencies create more sophisticated campaigns, a la Facebook. Twitter's current ad platform, introduced in April 2010, lets advertisers and their agency partners upload ads.

| Apple's iPhone 5 was the best-selling smartphone in the world in Q4 2012, according to the latest data from Strategy Analytics. The iPhone 5 took the crown from Samsung Galaxy S III, but the iPhone 4S also managed to overtake Samsung's flagship. According to Strategy Analytics' data, Samsung shipped 15.4 million Galaxy S IIIs, while Apple shipped 17.4 million iPhone 4S units and 27.4 million iPhone 5 units in Q4 2012.
