| This year at Brickworld Chicago, a group of online Lego builders called VirtuaLUG (Virtual Lego User Group) recreated every major scene from the original 1939 The Wizard of Oz movie, including a motorized tornado. The project involved 12 builders across three different countries, with scenes from Kansas to Munchkinland and poppy fields in the land of Oz.

After a passenger checks in for a flight, she can hold her smartphone over the tag to automatically update it with a unique barcode, containing all of her flight information and a view of her bag’s destination.

| A small talking robot built in Japan is about to take one giant leap into space. Kirobo — a humanoid "robot astronaut" that can converse with humans in space and on the ground — is scheduled for launch to the International Space Station on Aug. 4. Once aboard the orbiting laboratory, Kirobo will take part in the first robot-to-human conversation in space, Kibo Robot Project officials have said.

| A team of researchers has developed a robot fish that imitates the movements of a carp. They're from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and they're calling their invention, of course, RoboCarp. The robotic fish, or autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), is about five feet long, weighs 22 pounds and can dive to six feet.
