DIY iPhone Microscope Costs $8 to Make

Internal medicine and infectious disease specialist Isaac Bogoch and his colleagues turned an iPhone 4S into a fairly accurate microscope by attaching an eight dollar, three-millimeter ball lens to the smartphone's camera lens using double sided tape. The DIY microscope was tested with 200 slides of stool samples from school children with different types of parasitic worms in Pemba Island, Tanzania.

'Racer' in Chrome Creates a Track Across Devices

Google showed off during Wednesday's Google I/O Developers Conference a Chrome game that can build a race track based on the number of mobile devices present. Racer allows players to compete side-by-side on the track just rendered for them. Racer uses HTML 5 to work on all devices, meaning it works with Android and iOS tablets and phones that can install the Chrome browser.

Google Intros Stand-Alone Hangouts App

Google announced a major upgrade to its Hangouts real-time communication service, rolling out a new stand-alone Hangouts app for the web, Android and iOS that will be available later Wednesday. The app was introduced by Vic Gundotra, senior VP of engineering, at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco on Wednesday.
