| Yahoo agreed to acquire Tumblr last month for $1.1 billion, nearly all of it in cash. On Thursday, Mayer announced — on Tumblr — that the deal has passed regulatory approval procedures and is now complete. To commemorate the close, Yahoo has given its corporate Tumblr a bit of a facelift, and added separate Tumblrs for several of its divisions, including Flickr and Search, to share product updates with Tumblr's community.

| Last month, Amazon unveiled its plans to turn fan fiction into a real business, signing on Alloy Entertainment (a division of Warner Bros.) to allow independent writers to sell fiction based on shows like Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diairies on Amazon's site.

| The New York Times is poking a few holes through its metered paywall: On Thursday, the paper announced that non-subscribers can read up to three articles per day on its mobile apps, beginning June 27. That's more generous than the Times' desktop paywall, which limits non-subscribers to 10 free articles per month. It may not be more generous than its previous offering to mobile readers, however.
