Boys Will Be Boys In This 'Girls' Parody [VIDEO]
Saturday, July 28, 2012 2:20 PMAllegra Tepper

(Note: video contains some profanity)

From the broke, self-important and relentlessly entertaining 20-somethings that brought you HBO's runaway hit show Girls comes a parody that will knock you right out of your unpaid intern's chair.

Even if you're not an unpaid intern moonlighting as an aspiring filmmaker, we think you'll find this Boys trailer uproariously funny. It pokes at Girls from every angle, swapping out Lena Dunham and her cohorts for their male counterparts as they take on that other "best city in the world," Los Angeles.

Boys was created by a group of Funny or Die mainstays. It hit YouTube on Friday and almost immediately got a nod from the man upstairs, Judd Apatow. The executive producer of Girls tweeted a link to the video and lauded the send-up.

A playful jab at Girls' cast of Hollywood darlings, Boys has a little nepotism of its own -- the would-be show stars "Wolf Blitzer's son, Bear Blitzer" and "Pat Benetar's son, Patrick Benetar." And of course, it wouldn't be complete without the token neurotic virgin and wanton Brit. Basically, the whole gang is there and we're eating it up.

If you've got sensitive ears, you might want to skip this one -- boys wouldn't be Boys without some profanity. That said, for fans of Girls, this farce is not to be missed.

Twitter Jokester's 'Bomb Threat' Charges Dropped [VIDEO]
Saturday, July 28, 2012 12:52 PMAJP

An English man was found guilty of sending a "menacing electronic communication" after joking in a tweet that he would blow up a nearby airport. After the airport had been closed due to a snowstorm, Paul Chambers took to Twitter to vent his frustrations and said that he wanted to "blow it sky high." He was charged under the UK's Communication Act of 2003, which imprisons and fines people for such offenses.

However, because the context was not of a serious nature, the judge dropped the charges, stating, "If the person or persons who receive or read it, (the message) or may reasonably be expected to receive, or read it, would brush it aside as a silly joke, or a joke in bad taste, or empty bombastic or ridiculous banter, then it would be a contradiction in terms to describe it as a message of a menacing character."

For today the Internet wins, and Twitter may continue on with its constant hyperbole.

Olympic Popularity: Starcount Reveals Which Olympic Athletes Are Trending
Saturday, July 28, 2012 12:37 PMCharlie White

As you watch the Olympics, you can plainly see who wins at the various events, but who's #winning in the world of social media? That's where Starcount can help, showing you who are the most talked-about athletes on social media.

According to Starcount's Emma Wallace, "Starcount ranks the social media popularity of the most famous people from the top 11 global social networks," which she says provides "a well-rounded, unique global social perspective." She says the company is charting 9,000 Olympians this year.

We particularly like the way you can discover overall popularity and trending of athletes, or you can narrow it down to a country's Olympic team, or even a specific sport. If you want to spread this information around, the charts are embeddable, like so:

The Beginner's Guide to Socialcam
Saturday, July 28, 2012 11:29 AMMatt Petronzio

To participate in the digital age requires a certain kind of visual thinking. Whether creating a snazzy website layout, capturing artsy pics with Instagram or even choosing the perfect Facebook cover photo, interesting images and videos enhance social engagement .

Social video sharing platforms, such as YouTube, Viddy and Socialcam, have recognized (and propagated) this shift away from plain text. Users can express their personalities and interests in videos and share them with friends and followers.

Socialcam has specifically worked to streamline mobile video sharing. Spun from Justin.tv in March 2011, the quick and easy platform allows you to upload and customize videos that you capture with your smartphone (iPhone and Android). Plus, it doesn't have a time limit like Viddy's 15-second cap. You can add filters, themes and music, and it's simple to integrate your multiple social media accounts.

SEE ALSO: Top 10 Brands on Socialcam

Autodesk, a company known for its 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, bought Socialcam earlier in July for $60 million, thus acquiring its 54.7 million monthly active users.

If you're looking to see what all the buzz is about, we put together a simple guide in the gallery above, outlining everything you need to know. All you'll need is your smartphone and some creativity.

Note: Socialcam's Android app hasn't been updated for about a year. The iPhone and Android apps vary as far as layout goes, but the functions are similar. The user experience is much smoother for iPhone users.
