Celebrating Our Independents!

Posted: 03 Jul 2012 04:42 PM PDT

Lincolnton, NC—The Downtown Development Association of Lincolnton (DDA) and the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA) declares the weeks of July 1-14 Independents Days. "It's a special time to focus on independent businesses and the importance of their presence in our community," stated Osama Yousef, DDA Board Chair. The Downtown Development Association invites Lincolnton to help celebrate by joining in activities and in-store promotions.

"DDA is joining other local alliances and partner organizations nationwide–thousands of independent business owners and citizens who are participating in Independents Days—to celebrate our great independent businesses who exemplify the uniqueness of Lincolnton," said Cathy Davis, DDA Promotions Work Group Chair. "We have a reason to celebrate—these friends and neighbors embody the spirit of entrepreneurism and individuality in our community. Our citizens are integral to ensuring we keep these businesses that help define who we are and contribute to our sense of place."

Lincolnton residents can participate in Independents Days activities such as the Shop Local Challenge, Find Your Independents Scavenger Hunt, Cash Mob, and the July 4th Window Decorating Contest. The www.lovablelincolnton.org website contains more information and activities.

DDA is partnering with the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA) for a two week celebration and is part of a growing national movement of communities rallying to support their independent businesses, take control of their local economies, and reverse the trend of chains and big boxes displacing locally owned businesses.
