1:27:39 AMStan Schroeder

Microsoft will release the next iteration of its WP7 mobile platform, Windows Phone 7.8, next Wednesday or Nov. 28, WMPoweruser reports citing unnamed sources.

The report doesn't offer many more details, except for a few tidbits we already know: the update will bring WP7 devices a new start screen, Bing-based lock screen and the ability to keep Wi-Fi alive on Nokia devices in suspend mode.

Announced in June 2012, Windows Phone 7.8 is the update which should soothe the hearts and minds of WP7 device owners. Those devices won't be getting an update to the next major iteration of the platform, WP8, but WP7.8 brings some of its features to older devices.

Printer Creates 3D Tissue to Help Injured Patients Re-Grow Cartilage [VIDEO]
Sunday, November 25, 2012 7:46 PMAnita Li

A hybrid 3D-printer can create cartilage implants that may eventually help injured patients re-grow cartilage, according to a new study.

Combining a traditional ink-jet printer and an "electrospinning machine," scientists can build implants made from synthetic and natural materials, science journal Biofabrication reported. The former ensures the implant is strong, while the latter promotes cell growth, researchers said.

To test their performance in a living being, the implants were inserted into mice for two, four and eight weeks, with successful results.

"After eight weeks of implantation, the constructs appeared to have developed the structures and properties that are typical of elastic cartilage, demonstrating their potential for insertion into a patient," said the Institute of Physics, which publishes Biofabrication.

Mashable's Gift of the Day series highlights cool, interesting and fun products for that special someone on your holiday list.

It's happened to all of us. We're working on our computer and sipping coffee on a particularly tough Monday morning. Then the unthinkable happens: The mug somehow slips out of our hand and spills coffee all over the keyboard. If this happens to you more often than not, or if you know somebody who's particularly clumsy around keyboards and drinks, then this Logitech Washable keyboard is the perfect gift for the holiday season.

The Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 is designed to be very easy to clean. It can even be submerged in up to 11 inches of water and it will still work like new, thanks to drainage holes on the back.
