Apple's U.S. Smartphone Market Share Rises to 35 Percent

ComScore's new U.S. smartphone market share numbers are in, and the trend that's been going on for years hasn't changed: Google's Android and Apple's iOS are gaining, while everyone else is losing. In the three-month period ending November 2012, Google had a 53.7% market share, up from 52.6% in August.

Facebook Adds Voice Messaging to Its Messenger App

Facebook added the ability to send voice messages to its Messenger app for iOS and Android Thursday. To send a voice message, tap the + button beside where you traditionally type a message in the Messenger app. Then select Record, holding the button down to speak. When you release the Record button, your voice message will be sent to your recipient. Along with today's update, Facebook has also started testing VoIP functionality in Canada.

Teens Give Parents Drugged Milkshakes for More Internet Time

Two California teenagers gave drugged milkshakes to one of the teen's parents to bypass a 10 p.m. Internet cut-off time, police say. The teens, a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old friend, volunteered to buy milkshakes for the parents. The Sacramento Bee reports the parents drank only about a quarter of the milkshakes because they tasted grainy. They fell asleep and woke up around 1 a.m., with hangover symptoms, but went back to sleep.

Report: Google+ Has 105 Million Unique Monthly Visitors

Google+ has joined Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn in the 100 million-plus-unique-visitors-per-month club, but it's lagging in mobile, according to data from comScore. The network attracted 105 million monthly users in October 2012 compared to 65.3 million in October 2011, a 60.9% increase. Comparatively, Facebook had 822.1 million unique visits, up 4.3% from 788.2 million for the same period.

Pinterest Makes First Acquisition: Punchfork

Pinterest made its first acquisition on Thursday, buying up Punchfork, a 2-year old recipe sharing and discovery website, for an undisclosed sum. Punchfork's founder and CEO Jeff Miller announced the news Thursday in an e-mail to the website's community, noting that Punchfork will soon shut down its website, app and API.
