Comcast Buys GE's Stake in NBC Universal

Comcast on Tuesday purchased General Electric's 49% stake in NBC Universal for $16.7 billion, making Comcast the full owner of the media giant. The cable firm originally bought its 51% stake in NBC Universal in December 2009 for $6.5 billion in cash. Under the deal announced Tuesday, Comcast will also buy GE's remaining NBC Universal properties, including 30 Rockefeller Plaza and CNBC's headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.

HBO Go Comes to AirPlay

HBO subscribers can now use the HBO Go app on their iPhone, iPod touch or iPad devices to stream shows on to their HDTVs using AirPlay, Eric Kessler, president and chief operating officer of HBO, announced on stage at AllThingsD's media conference Tuesday. 'New York Times' Finally Closes World's Most Obvious Hole in Paywall

After The New York Times introduced its digital paywall in early 2011, some frustrated readers came up with elaborate ways to get around it, including launching a special Twitter feed and browser app. But it turned out there was a much simpler workaround: just delete “?gwh=numbers” from the URL and it gets rid of the paywall banner. Well, it only took about two years, but the Times has finally put the kibosh on this method.
