This Soccer Ball Doubles As a Portable Generator

In poverty-stricken areas, residents with limited resources often have to wait years for electricity to reach their area. One organization aims to address the real-world issue with Soccket, a soccer ball that harnesses energy. Soccket stores the kinetic energy built up while you play using a pendulum-like mechanism. Thirty minutes of kicking around can power an LED lamp for three hours.

Top o' the morning to everyone, and for those doing any Googling this St. Patrick's Day, there's an adorable Google Doodle waiting for you. This year, an animated Google Doodle features six cute children — each wearing a letter of Google's name — doing a traditional Irish stepdance. Although Google has had St. Patrick's Day Doodles since 2000, this is the first one to get the animation treatment.
