#FunFriday: Random World Records

By Phil Hollows

Guinness 2Hello friends! How was your week? We’re happy to be back with another edition of #FunFriday for your just-before-the-weekend enjoyment.

As always, these weekly posts are intended to be a short reprieve as we all count the last few hours until the weekend.

So, here we are again and get ready for an especially fun topic this week …

#Fun Friday: Random World Records

Did you ever dream about breaking a world record as a kid? The 2014 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records was released last month, and there are some pretty fascinating new entries. Let's take a look at these weird, wacky, and wonderful superlatives, shall we?

Smallest Living Dog

Cue the collective, "Aww." Meet Miracle Milly, the world's smallest living dog, by height, who measures 3.8 inches (9.65 centimeters) tall. She is a brown chihuahua who lives in Puerto Rico with owner Vanessa Semler. According to Semler, Milly weighed less than 1 ounce at birth and had to be fed milk with an eyedropper. Wow.

Largest Collection of Vacuum Cleaners

James Brown lives in Nottingham, England and has an impressive collection of … vacuum cleaners. That’s right and there’s 322 of them. The 33-year-old Brit says he began collecting them at age eight and has now opened his own museum to house them all. He also adds that he does not even enjoy cleaning.

We have just one question. Why?? To each their own …

Fun Friday

Farthest Distance Skateboarding By a Goat

We are not making this stuff up, people (I couldn't make this up if I tried!) Happie the goat skated 118 feet (about 36 meters) in 25 seconds. This talented goat lives in Fort Myers, Florida, under the care of owner Melody Cooke. Happie may be letting fame get to her head, though. Cooke says, "Before Happie was skateboarding, she was happy and calm, liked to be held and was very friendly and obedient. After she became a Guinness World Record skateboarder, she’s a bit of a diva.” Hilarious.

Grand Theft of World Records

While it didn't happen in time to make it into this year's edition, there were actually seven new world records set just last week … by one video game! That's right, the new Grand Theft Auto 5 was released September 17 and hit $1 billion in sales within three days. This latest version of the popular GTA series has broken records for, among other things, best-selling video game and highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours. To put that in perspective, this game beat records previously held by movies like The Avengers and Avatar.

Fun Friday

With highlights like this, we can’t wait to see what records are broken in the 2015 edition.

We hope you got a kick out of this week’s post. Oh and before you sign off and head to happy hour, just tell us one thing: would you rather have a shoe-sized chihuahua or a skateboarding goat (and why?) in the comments below.

Happy weekend everyone!
