#FunFriday: Favorite Thanksgiving Side Dishes

#FunFriday: Favorite Thanksgiving Side Dishes

By Phil Hollows

FunFridayHappy Friday! We're back for another edition of our most entertaining post of the week.

If you're new to the series, #FunFriday serves as our weekly smattering of fun things we find online, or topics that pop into our heads throughout the week. We like to keep it light, fun, topical and entertaining

And this week, we picked one of our favorite topics: Food!

With Thanksgiving in the U.S. quickly approaching, we thought we'd kick the turkey to the curb, and instead share some of our favorite recipes for side dishes. Who doesn't love savory sausage stuffing or buttery mashed potatoes?

There's something for everyone in this collection, so let’s get started.

Potatoes

Thanksgiving is full of comfort foods and mashed potatoes are one of them. There are so many ways to serve up potatoes, and mashed is definitely a classic. But this…this takes mashed potatoes to a brand new level.

Squash

Stay with the season and cook up some squash. When they cook, they become sweet and rich, and are very healthy for you. Most varieties are high in vitamin C and A, antioxidants that help prevent cancer and heart disease. Bonus. We found a recipe with roasted garlic, brown butter, and sage over at Delish that’ll be sure to impress your guests this Thanksgiving.

Yams

Like squash, yams not only taste good, but they're good for you. And : They're versatile! You can roast, puree, steam, bake, or grill them, and they are a perfect accompaniment to both sweet and savory dishes. We figured the Food Network would have some good recipes for yams, and they didn't disappoint. This yam casserole, courtesy of Paula Deen, may take a little bit if time to cook, but it’ll be worth the wait.

Stuffing

It's not a Thanksgiving feast without stuffing! We crowdsourced on our Facebook page to see if anyone would share their Thanksgiving favorites and Rosemarie Vitale Lemke told us about turkey sausage rice stuffing with cranberries…sounds great doesn't it? We found the recipe over at Allrecipes.com

We hope we didn't make you too hungry this morning. Only six days to weight! Er, wait.

Have a great weekend!
