#FunFriday: Four of Our Favorite TEDx Talks

#FunFriday: Four of Our Favorite TEDx Talks

By Phil Hollows

#FunFridayJust a few more days before Christmas. Are you ready?

Before the hustle and the bustle of the holidays gets too overwhelming, we wanted to share some of the most inspiring, intellectually challenging, and thoughtful TED talks we’ve come across.

If you’re unfamiliar with the TED series of talks, you’re in for a real treat. They’re all about “ideas worth spreading.”

The four that we’ve chosen all have significance to what makes running a business or being a blogger so great — finding your voice, telling the stories that matter, making people sit up and take notice, and spreading your ideas to the world.

Enjoy!

Roger Ebert: Remaking My Voice

When cancer took the lower jaw of late film critic Roger Ebert, he lost his ability to speak. What he didn’t lose was his voice. A brilliant writer and communicator, Ebert used social media and online writing platforms to share his passion for film, politics, creativity (to name a few topics) with his signature sharp wit.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: The Danger of a Single Story

Novelist Chimamanda Adichie teaches us that stories interweave our lives, connecting us to our neighbors and people around the world who we may never know. She warns that no single story contains a complete view, and encourage each of us to seek out each other’s stories and see what lies inside our experiences.

Liu Bolin: The Invisible Man

Beijing-based artist Liu Bolin has an unusual way making people pay attention – he completely disappears into his own art. You’ll be in complete awe. Promise. It’s a powerful statement about making an impact even when others aren’t looking.

Eric Berlow and Sean Gourley: Mapping Ideas Worth Spreading

Ecologist Eric Berlow and physicist Sean Gourley tag-team in this fascinating talk about algorithms and mapping how ideas intersect. They examined the entire archive of TEDx talks and used data visualizations to show how ideas and original thinking moves around the globe. We’re all more connected that we think.
