FeedBlitz: Rewind the Week

By Lindsay Bell

FeedBlitzThe last day of the the first month of 2014.

Amazing how time flies, isn’t it? We hope it has been a good one for you.

The blogosphere continues to churn out some really phenomenal posts, and we’ve done our best to put together the best of the best for you in this edition of Rewind the Week. It’s hard work, but we care. Someone has to do it.

As always, if we missed a post that you think shouldn’t be missed, let us know in the comments below.

Your Super Bowl XLVIII Real-Time Marketing Guide

Here in the States, this weekend brings much fanfare and anticipation with the Super Bowl. With the success of Oreo’s Dunk in Dark campaign from last year, real-time marketing is on the top of everyone’s mind yet again. In this post from Shift Communications, Christopher Penn puts together a guide to real-time marketing for brands trying to get in on the action. The biggest takeaway? Research, research, research.

After Guest Blogging, What’s Left for “Safe” Link Building

Last week, we mentioned Matt Cutts’ biting pronouncement that guest blogging was dead. After the dust settled, some really thoughtful posts about sound link-build strategies emerged — including this one on Search Engine Journal. Contributor Marcela De Vivo lays out her recommendations for building high-value backlinks the right way.

Six Arguments Against Content Shock

Let’s face it: There’s a lot of content out there, and it’s harder than ever before to get eyes trained the latest piece of brilliance you’ve just published on your blog. Mark Schaefer introduced the idea of Content Shock (that is, too much content and the slow fade of content marketing) in a blog post a few weeks ago, and addresses some arguments against the concept in this follow-up post.

Optimize your WordPress Blog Content with Google’s Markup Helper

The best content in the world isn’t going to be effective if it can’t be easily found on the four major search engines. Christopher Baldock provides an excellent walkthrough of the Schema markup language as a way to move blog content higher up in search in this excellent this post on Content Marketing Institute.

Facebook Releases a New Reader App That Makes Their Own App Look Clunky

Now for a bit of interesting industry news: Facebook announced the release of Paper, their new “storytelling” app. The first app to come out of Facebook Creative Labs, Paper looks to be a gorgeously designed content curation app. It won’t actually be available for download until February 3, but you can be sure people are going to be talking about this one for a while.

And that’s it for this week. Enjoy your weekend, and stay safe (and warm!).
