Wednesday Wrap: Our Top Five Guest Bloggers of 2014 (So Far!)

Wednesday Wrap: Our Top Five Guest Bloggers of 2014 (So Far!)

By Phil Hollows

FeedBlitzWednesday is normally our spot to feature guest bloggers, people who bring an outside voice and vision to the FeedBlitz table, and who generously share their experiences in digital marketing with our community.

Today, we wanted to do a look back at some of the best guest bloggers we featured over the first couple of months of 2014.

You might have missed one or two, and now, you’ll have a roundup of the top five, on one handy dandy cheat sheet.

Enjoy!

Content Marketing: Fix Your Crummy Content

The new year started with a strong call to action from Mike Templeman – content might be king, but crappy content is nobody’s friend. In today’s fast paced digital world, the amount of content we are exposed to on a daily basis is astounding. Make yours quality, or be prepared to be left in the dust, no matter how much you churn out.

Content: Guided by Voices

On January 29th, Bob LeDrew shared some best practices for creating that quality content, in his post “Guided by Voices”. LeDrew is a Canadian marketer, but started in journalism, spending some time in radio. He’s also a singer/songwriter, and knows a thing or two about ‘finding your voice’ – an important component of any blogging efforts. If your brand doesn’t know who it is, or what it should ‘sound like’, the most excellent content in the world will end up falling flat.

Building Community with Other Bloggers

Writer Sarah Mock touched on another important part of blogging, or spending any time in the digital space, really: Building a community. As she notes, “For many bloggers, social media isn't just a way to promote our latest blog posts. It's an opportunity to forge meaningful personal relationships with other bloggers, support one another in learning, and build community.” She brings you tips and tricks to help you use social media to do more than just publish posts.

Blogger Outreach: Persistence is Fertile

And once you start being a bit more human using social media, and connecting with other marketers and bloggers online, you can begin to focus on serious outreach. Our work with guest bloggers involves patience, and, as Chris Abraham mentions in this post, persistence, but you must temper that with sincerity, or you end up looking and feeling like a spammer.

As Abraham cautions, “Social media is noisy and tends to be an insider's club. We resonate with people we already know, be it in our Inboxes, our rivers of news, or our walls — and we tend to tune out unknowns. In social media marketing, most of us are unknowns, most brands are unknown, as are most services.”

He shares the three things you need to do serious and successful blogger outreach – or outreach of any kind, really.

The Best Practices of Blogging

And finally, Stacey Hood wraps up February with an overall look at blogging – moving beyond ‘just the content’. He touches on SEO and design, and also provides insights on how to educate readers without sounding pompous. Your goal is to attract new readers and especially new customers. Do that by communicating with them at their level.

So, there you have it, five of some of our best guest posts of 2014 so far. Watch this space every Wednesday for great advice from our guest contributors.
