Wednesday Wrap: The Best of our Guest Bloggers

Wednesday Wrap: The Best of our Guest Bloggers

By Phil Hollows

FeedBlitzAs is the case with most things is life, for every improvement or advancement that happens in business or otherwise, there’s often a dark side lurking around the corner.

You can just use this handy plastic card to shop? No need to carry cash around anymore?

That’s all well and good until the first time your debit card gets duplicated by a shady shop owner, and your bank accounts are emptied.

Or, as we mentioned in Friday’s FeedBlitz: Rewind the Week, the advancements in technology in the auto industry means many of you have keyless entry, even keyless ignition. Fantastic right? No more searching for your keys in the morning! Until you discover your car has been hacked and is currently on a cargo ship heading who knows where.

There’s also the ‘too much of a good thing’ dark side of this new digital life we live. There’s just too much content. Looking for a new blog to follow? There are hundreds of thousands! Searching for ways to improve your email marketing? There are 102 million results on Google for that search term alone.

But, fear not, we’re here to help. Every few months or so, we like to curate the best of FeedBlitz’s content for you, specifically our excellent guest bloggers’ posts. This way, you have a handy list, and an easy resource to check if you’ve missed a post or two.

In fact, speaking of ‘content curation’, that’s where we start our list today.

Cop Out of Content Creation with 10 Great Content Curation Tools

Sharon Hurley Hall shared her top content curation tools with us, and her thoughts on what curation – versus creation – can bring to your web site or blog.

The key, as she mentions, is to not simply aggregate a list posts from others, which, let’s face it, is a little lazy and doesn’t bring much added value to your audience, but to carefully choose your content around themes or subject matter (much like a museum curator would do) and to also add your own thoughts and commentary to the content you are sharing.

She includes a great list of 10 top content curation tools in this post as well, tools that allow you to add audience specific value to your curated content.

Candle in the Dark: How Unsatisfied Customers Help Business Growth

If you’re not listening to your unhappy customers, you’re missing out on perhaps the best learning opportunities out there. Let’s face it…your happy customers are, well, happy! And that’s what we all wish for. But your cranky customers are the ones who can open your eyes to issues or problems in your business that you simply won’t see otherwise.

As Sookie Lioncourt wrote in her post, “Unhappy customers (whether it is product related, price related or customer-service related) can be very challenging to handle, especially when they are active online. But, just because they aren't satisfied with your services does not necessarily mean that you can't turn them around. Dissatisfied customers can be your most valuable assets.”

In today’s world of instant online communication, through social media and otherwise, you would be remiss to ignore the complainers. Don’t see them as a problem to ‘deal with’ – instead, consider whether their points are valid, and changes could be made.

Employee Perks and Unlimited Paid Time Off

This is a subject that comes up time and time again these days – just how far are you willing to go with your organization when it comes to employee perks?

In this post, Lindsay Bell explores the relatively new world of virtual working, flex time, and unlimited paid time off.

She writes, “The last ten years or so have seen dramatic change for many industries and organizations. Millenials want better and more flexible working environments. Competition is high for those who are digital whizzes. And many bosses, where they can, are realizing that ‘work from home’ setups actually work, and are often more efficient when it comes to employee satisfaction and the amount of work that gets done during an average work day.”

These changes certainly are not for every industry, but they are rapidly becoming more of a ‘norm’ than an anomaly in business today.
