What the Associated Press Refused to Print in its Misleading and Factually Incorrect Attack on Governor McCrory

Posted: 16 Dec 2014 07:37 PM PST

"The governor has done everything in a proper and ethical manner. This is a classic example of partisan drive-by journalism that deliberately misrepresents the facts. The AP is making reckless accusations through anonymous people about laws that they cannot cite." – Josh Ellis, Communications Director

North Carolina Bridge Makes List of Countries Best

Posted: 16 Dec 2014 08:10 AM PST

Raleigh--We all know North Carolina has some of the most beautiful places to visit. In addition to the spectacular scenery, the state boasts some of the best roads and bridges to travel on. Speaking of that, Roads and Bridges magazine came out with the top 10 bridges in the country and making the list was the I-85 Yadkin River Veterans Memorial Bridge in Salisbury. It was one of 8 bridges replaced as part of the I-85 Corridor Improvement Project in Rowan/Davidson counties and was long considered the state's top mobility project. Transportation Secretary Tony Tata said, "The Veterans Memorial Bridge provides critical connectivity which is exactly what we are focusing on through our new Strategic Mobility Formula and the Governor's 25 Year Vision." "The completion of the I-85 Corridor Improvement project marked the culmination of years of planning for this critical transportation project in North Carolina," Pat Ivey, NCDOT Division 9 engineer said. "Constructing the Yadkin River Veterans Memorial Bridge was a major step toward improving the safety and reliability of one of the busiest interstate freight corridors on the east coast." Bryan Budzynski, editor with Roads and Bridges magazine, said all the bridges on the list were either new or replacement ones and some of the criteria used to compile it included: •    the scope and size of the project; •    what the project was utilized for; •    the degree of challenge in constructing the project; and •    whether there was any kind of innovation, either in the materials or process that were used. The new I-85 bridge is four lanes wide in each direction, twice as wide as its predecessor and has 12-foot-wide shoulders. It was designed to reduce congestion, improve safety and extend the life of the local transportation network. ***NCDOT***
