Music lovers filled West Main Street in downtown Lincolnton Thursday to welcome the return of the Alive After Five concert series sponsored by Paul Parker Agency.

The move from East Main Street to the west side of the courthouse seemed to be a big crowd pleaser as the shade was in abundance and there were no worries of the event conflicting with operating hours of downtown businesses.

"I was able to find plenty of room for my chairs in the shade," said Sharon Heavner of Lincolnton. "Last year, everyone would pack themselves in the shade like sardines when it was on the other side of the courthouse."

This year also saw the return of the concerts being held on Thursday instead of Friday.

"I missed a few of the shows last year because I had to be out of town on the weekends," said Frank Coffey. "Now I can plan on making it to every one."

This year's show saw the return of The Extraordinaires as they filled the air with classic tunes from the 60's and 70's mixed with some beach music.

Delighted fans boogied to the beats and kicked back in the nice weather.

"We were so happy to see this wonderful sunshine. No rain or unbearable heat. This is nice!" said Stephanie Walker of Iron Station.

Jimmy and Doris Keever of Lincolnton also were content to relaxing in their chairs and listening to the melodies.

"We love the music," said Jimmy. "But we will just sit back and watch the kids do the dancing," Doris added.

The Extraordinaires supply musical entertainment for the first Alive After Five of 2012.

The next concert in the Alive After Five series sponsored by The Art Council of Lincoln County will feature progressive and traditional bluegrass music group Unspoken Tradition on June 28.
