| As the year draws to a close, one well-known Twitter term is trending -- but not in a good way. "Twitterverse" made its first appearance on Marist's fourth annual list of the most annoying words or phrases used in conversation. The Marist Institute for Public Opinion surveyed more than 1,200 adults nationwide and found that 9% consider Twitterverse to be the most obnoxious word of the year.

| My personal relationship with Twitter hit a milestone on Christmas Eve. For the first time, a Promoted Tweet -- an ad, essentially -- made me want to laugh and share rather than grimace and push on through my news feed.
