Opera Acquires Skyfire Labs for $155 Million

Opera Software has acquired Skyfire Labs, the maker of mobile browser Skyfire, for $155 million, the company has announced. Skyfire's other products include the Rocket Optimizer, which provides video delivery optimization for mobile operators, and Skyfire Horizon, a mobile browser extension which operators can customize and use for promotions and advertising.

Facebook May Already Be Taking Away Searches From Google

Even before Facebook started rolling out its smart search engine earlier this year, it may have been taking away some searches from Google. The number of searches done on search engines in the U.S. dropped by 3% in 2012, according to a new report from comScore, even though the number of people searching increased by 4%. Google, in particular, saw the number of searches decline by 2% last year.

Pepsi Embraces the Harlem Shake

Well, that didn't take long. At least one big brand — Pepsi — has embraced the big dance craze of early 2013, the Harlem Shake. The brand — working with DeepFocus' Moment Studio — dropped the video on Wednesday and it has racked up more than 9,000 views on YouTube. As with other videos in the fledgling genre, the 30-second clip features Baauer's "Harlem Shake," but here cans and bottles are doing the dance.

Barnes & Noble: Nook Business Will Lose Even More Money This Year

BlackBerry Co-Founder Sells Off His Entire Stake in Company

This is supposed to be BlackBerry's big year, but it looks like at least one former exec isn't too confident about the company's comeback. Jim Balsillie, the co-founder and former co-CEO of BlackBerry (nee RIM), has sold off his entire stake in the company, according to a filing released Thursday. Balsillie had 28.6 million shares of RIM a year ago, giving him 5.1% of the company.

Mark Zuckerberg Now Owns Nearly 30% of Facebook

In a not-so-subtle missive, the video above shows a Google mailman delivering a letter, but scanning the contents for keywords for which it can target ads. In contrast, the Microsoft Outlook mailman merely drops off a letter without reading it.

Heineken Offering Valentine's Day Restaurant Reservations Via Twitter

Heineken USA is looking to help out hapless last-minute Valentine's Day celebrants with reservations at nice restaurants Thursday night if you use the Twitter hashtag #tweetforatable. The brewer told Creativity Online that the venues are "cool, man of the world restaurants," but didn't offer further details. For some, the brand has already saved the day: Well@heineken_us just came through like a boss.
