NAB Show 2013 kicked off earlier this week, with broadcasters, video professionals and digital media startups gathering in Las Vegas to talk about the future of the big screen, the small screen and the tablet-sized screen. For the last three days, I've roamed the show floor at NAB Show 2013, talking to technology companies, media groups and broadcasters about the impact that digital and social are having on the industry as a whole.

DirecTV to Offer Programming for Dogs

If you feel bad about leaving your dog home all day while you work, DirecTV will offer a solution of sorts: TV programming for dogs. The satellite provider will begin offering DogTV for $5.99 a month in the third quarter, according to Bloomberg. The channel broadcasts content is aimed at canines and includes "scenes with and without other animals, animation sequences and a variety of moving objects,” according to DogTV.

Pandora Now Has 200 Million Registered Users

Pandora has now passed 200 million registered users for its online radio service, the company announced Tuesday. It took Pandora six years to sign up its first 100 million registered users — a milestone it reached in July 2011 — and a little less than two years to double that user base. Pandora also noted that 140 million users now access the service from mobile.

Sports Media Tees Up for The Masters

The week of April 8, professional golfers and their fans descend on Augusta for The Masters, the most-watched golf event of the year. Although the tournament doesn't kick off until Thursday, TV, radio, print and online media are treating The Masters to a full week of coverage, beginning with live video of player practice on Monday through Wednesday, as well as pre-tournament interviews and commentary with players and analysts.
