Simon & Schuster Brings E-Books to NYC Libraries

Simon & Schuster, the only major publisher to continually refuse to make any of its e-books available to lending libraries, is shifting its stance. The publisher announced Monday that it is making its complete list of electronic titles available at the New York Public Library, the Brooklyn Public Library and the Queens Library as part of a one-year pilot program beginning April 30 (mid-May in Queens).

Foxconn Ramps Up Hiring Ahead of Next iPhone

Both Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal report hearing from sources that Foxconn, Apple's Asian manufacturing partner, has begun ramping up hiring to build the next-generation iPhone. Bloomberg cites a source who says that Apple has requested Foxconn bring on more workers to handle demand for producing the new iPhone model in addition to existing models.

Dish Network Makes $25.5 Billion Bid for Sprint Nextel

Charging it will offer a "superior value for Sprint shareholders," Dish Network on Monday announced it was making a $25.5 billion bid for Sprint Nextel. Dish is offering Sprint shareholders $17.3 billion in cash plus $8.2 billion in stock. Dish's bid of $7 a share is a 12.5% premium over Sprint's closing price on Friday. However, Monday morning Sprint's shares were up about 15% to $7.18 on the news.
