China Now Has 300 Million 3G Subscribers

All three of China's mobile telcos have just released their May figures, and the huge mobile market has hit another significant milestone: It has surpassed 300 million 3G users. China Mobile now has 129.40 million on its TD-SCDMA network despite it not supporting Apple's iPhone or iPad for full 3G functionality, China Unicom is now up to 95.9 million on its 3G data plans and China Telecom has convinced 88 million to sign up for 3G.

Tesla Motors has designed its Model S to be capable of fast battery swapping, which can ultimately prove to be a better solution than charging the car battery. According to Tesla, swapping a battery in the Model S takes about 90 seconds, and the driver never has to get out of the car.

The Brain: Now in Ultra High-Res 3D

Today, researchers have unveiled the most detailed 3D image of the human brain ever taken. The image reveals structures as tiny as 20 microns — 50 times smaller than those created using the best MRI technology. The image, made as part of a project called the BigBrain, is part of a larger effort to create a high-resolution computer model of the human brain that can serve as a reference point for future studies.

Handling it at a product demo in New York City today, I was surprised about how small the device is, and it did a decent job of capturing images of distant objects with a minimum of blur due to camera shake.

Samsung Unveils Galaxy NX, an Android-Powered Mirrorless Camera

If you thought the Samsung Galaxy Camera, the company's Android-powered connected camera, was a one-off, think again. Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy NX, a mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera that also runs Android. And it has LTE. Like other Samsung mirrorless cameras, the Galaxy NX has a 20.3-megapixel APS-C sensor with hybrid autofocus. The rear LCD is a large 4.8-inch touchscreen, and there's an electronic viewfinder as well.
