How FeedBlitz Can Replace Traditional Email Service Providers
Email is still one of the most powerful marketing tools out there, and we don't take its impact lightly at Convince & Convert. With a daily newsletter of over 20,000 subscribers, and a blog editorial calendar that includes new posts at least five days a week, it's important we deliver quality, timely information to our subscribers. Our decision to move from Feedburner to FeedBlitz several months ago was driven by the needs of our subscribers. As you'll see, our latest migration and redesign mirrors this process. Two is Too ManyWe were providing two different emails, to two different lists, using two different software platforms. One was for daily content that we publish on our blog, and would be delivered to 'blog post by email' subscribers via an RSS feed. The other, was for our daily email newsletter of curated content that was delivered to newsletter subscribers, and was created manually. And yes, it was as time-consuming and confusing as it sounds! We soon realized that many of the subscribers overlapped, and there had to be a better way of pushing out the content they wanted. Information Overload and A Balancing ActWe needed a single mailing that delivered our own blog content first and foremost, and included a piece of curated content from across the web that we felt was important to digital marketers. When we are inundated with news, blog posts, tweets, and other social updates, it's nearly impossible to cut through the clutter, and decide what's actually important to our work. With our 'One Social Thing' email newsletter, we aim to figure that out for you so that if you're not able to scour through your Twitter feed or RSS list, you are receiving the most important news directly to your inbox. We also needed a way to include the dedicated companies that sponsor our website, newsletters, and podcast. Recognizing the Need to StreamlineWe knew we didn't want to lose this important newsletter, but we also knew that two different emails from us per day (sometimes three if we had a special announcement) was too many. Instead of sending one email each morning with new blog content…
and one each evening…
we decided to combine these emails, and redesign the layout to deliver all of this content in one digestible format: The new email is called the One Thing.
The Solution: FeedBlitzWhy is this so awesome? We are now pulling in three different RSS feeds – one for the blog content, one for the One Social Thing curated content, and one for our sponsors. When we need to update the content for any of these pieces, we are able to use a platform that we are already familiar with (WordPress) instead of trying to deal with email service providers, which are often clunky and unpredictable. When we update the content, FeedBlitz pulls in the most recent updates all into one place and delivers it on a daily basis to our combined list of subscribers. We don't have to update the content in two different places anymore, which allows us to be more efficient with our time and resources. This makes our editors, our sponsors, AND our subscribers happy.
